CECH PLAYS THE HERO
Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup after a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in the quarter-finals at Stamford Bridge. After the match, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson praised the Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech by saying that he almost single-handedly knocked them out of the competition. Ferguson has said that United would have certainly taken the game away from Chelsea, or at least into extra time, had it not been for the heroic efforts of Cech. The Czech Republic goalkeeper made two outstanding saves to keep out Javier Hernandez when it seemed impossible to miss.
Ferguson has recalled that Cech made a similar outstanding save from one of his own defenders in the match at Old Trafford. The 2-2 draw between the two clubs in the first match resulted in a replay. Ferguson has said that they were unable to maintain their composition in the match. However, he is almost certain that the game would have gone into extra time had it not been for the brilliance of Cech. The 30-year-old goalkeeper was widely regarded as one of the main reasons for Chelsea winning the Champions league last season with several heroic penalty saves along the way.
Demba Ba scored the only goal of the match in the victory.
“Cech’s save from Chicharito was unbelievable. He made a similar save in the first game from one of his own defenders. Had we got that goal then I think we would have been okay. It may have gone to extra time but we wouldn’t have needed to go chasing it. One he really should have scored but he headed over. It was disappointing because we are better than that. Over the 90 minutes, only Antonio Valencia reached the standard we expect,” said Ferguson, whose team now have only the league to focus.

BENITEZ WILL LEAVE
The manager of Chelsea, Rafa Benitez, has made it clear that he is not going to continue as the manager of Chelsea after this season.
Benitez was appointed as the manager of Chelsea in November last year on the place of Roberto Di Matteo who was sacked from his post. He was appointed only as the interim manager.
Chelsea hasn’t performed that well under the guidance of Benitez and in the recently played matches; Benitez was booed by some fans. Benitez is very upset with the behaviour of Chelsea fans and because of that, he has decided to leave the club at the end of this season.
Talking to the reporters after Chelsea’s win over Middlesbrough in a FA Cup match, Benitez said, “I am disappointed with the behaviour of Chelsea supporters in the last few games. Their behaviour didn’t help the team at all. The way they were singing and passing comments, the team got demoralized by that. I hadn’t expected the Chelsea fans to behave in a manner like that.”
“The fans come to the stadium to support the team and to create a good environment in the stadium. But, they have behaved in an opposite manner in the last few matches. If they continue behaving like that, our performance will further deteriorate and we will not be able to achieve our goal of qualifying for the Champions League.”
“They should have backed me. It’s not that I am managing a team for the first time. I have done this job before. I have got experience in this department. So, they should have kept faith in me. But, they booed me which was not nice to see. I just hope that the fans will behave well in the upcoming matches.”
