When Arsene Wenger signed Petr Cech in the summer, some pundits argued that he will be worth an additional 10-15 point for Arsenal.
However this has failed to materialize, and when you compare last season’s stats to the current one, Arsenal has only improved the amount of goals conceded by two units.
And when you consider the goals that Petr Cech conceded against Manchester City, you begin to wonder what had happened to the player. Arsenal fans have made their feelings known on Twitter and have even compared the former Chelsea player to Manuel Almunia.
When you consider that Cech has been beaten quite easily by Kevin de Bruyne on Sunday, you wonder whether the signing of the Czech player has really been an upgrade for Arsenal. And this was not the first time since Cech conceded a similar goal to Bolasie in a match against Crystal Palace.
One possible explanation for this performance is that at Chelsea, Petr Cech was used to playing behind a solid defence. Indeed, under Mourinho, Chelsea was difficult to break down, and this provided an additional layer of security for Petr Cech. Players such as de Bruyne would not have been allowed time to shoot at Cech if he was playing with the Chelsea defence in front of him. Read more »
The power player might actually be returning to the field as early as the Watford Saturday game. Arsene Wenger (the head Arsenal manager) is going to be making an official late decision on whether or not they can play Petr Cech and while nothing is confirmed as of yet, Wenger confirmed that all of the club’s players were in high spirits and great form after the international break.
Cech was sidelined immediately after following a calf injury which came after a 2-1 blow in a Premier League game. While Swansea celebrated the victory, Cech had to just sit there and watch from a hospital bed while doctors did a battery of tests on his leg. After the March 2 blow, Cech was more determined than ever to return to the field and since then has been working hard to return to full time training.
During an announcement by Wenger, Cech was not currently scheduled to begin training and the official decision of putting him back in the squad hasn’t been made yet. It’s still risky to do so with his injury healing up and we’ll have to see how his healing from the injury plays out. We can all hope for a speedy recovery but jumping back into the field too quickly could provoke further and more serious injury. Read more »
There has been a lot of speculation over the future of Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy over the last few days.
Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has indeed confirmed that there might be some truth in the speculation. The Frenchman has struggled to make an impact at Villa since his arrival a few months ago. They continue to reside at the bottom of the table and Villa have already gone adrift in this position. There needs to be a massive turnaround in fortunes if the club are even to think about fighting against relegation.
The summer signings certainly have not favoured the manager and he is determined to bring some of his own players in January. Since the club are unlikely to spend a lot of money due to the prospect of going down being a significant threat, Villa will have to make do with only loan signings. Remi Garde is trying to use his contacts and his great relationship with his compatriot Arsene Wenger to get a quality player like Debuchy on-board. The former Newcastle United defender has found first-team opportunities difficult due to the good form shown by Hector Bellerín. It looks highly unlikely that he will displace the Spaniard in this season. Read more »
PetrCech’s time at Chelsea is about to reach it’s end as the Czech goal-keeper is tired of playing a substitute role at Stamford Bridge and having to serve as a back-up option.
Courtois is the main goal-keeper of Chelsea and this won’t be changing anytime soon. This has forced PetrCech to stay on the sidelines of Stamford Bridge for the majority of the season and now Cech is starting to consider his options outside of Chelsea and some of the clubs which have shown more interest in signing Cech is Arsenal and PSG.
Reports are claiming that PSG is attempting to sign PetrCech by offering him a contract believed to be worth £39 million where he would be earning around £150,000 each week on a 5 year long deal.
The problem that Paris Saint-Germain will be facing is that PetrCech is interested in staying in London as his family and kids have already settled in the country. Read more »
