Theo Walcott warns Arsenal must not dwell on past seasons

England international Theo Walcott has insisted that Arsenal must not dwell on the past as they aim to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners ended the previous campaign on a disappointing note as they finished fifth in the standings, thereby missing out on the Champions League for the first time under the Arsene Wenger era.

Despite this, the north London giants showed that they are still among England’s elite after they clinched a penalty shootout win over Chelsea after the scores were level at 1-1 in normal time. Walcott came on as a second-half substitute in the game whilst slotting in the first penalty with comfort.

Following the triumph, Walcott insisted that the team feel confident ahead of their curtain raiser against Leicester City on Friday, he said: “We let people talk on the outside. We know what we need to do this season. Everyone is up for the challenge. We do like a good challenge and it’ll be different for us this year. But it’s how we react. It’s as simple as that. We can’t dwell on the past anymore. We need to focus on our strengths. We are starting to learn this new system that we used in the last 10 games last season. We are still learning it. It’s working for now. We’ll see if it continues to.” Read more »

On managing pressure and asking for Rooney’s advice, he said: “I’ve not had to ask him because I think I’m coping well with it, but I’m sure if he thought that I wasn’t then he’d be the first one to have a chat with me about it.” Read more »

Gary Neville is baffled by the statements of Leicester players

Gary Neville is baffled by the statements of Leicester players after Claudio Ranieri was sent packing.

As per Neville, the players are looking to defend themselves and prove that they didn’t have any hand in that axing. But, they shouldn’t do that. They shouldn’t entertain such questions at all. For them to say things in their defence, it is making them look like dishonest.

Neville says that he is waiting for some more lads in the Foxes squad to speak on the issue in the next few days because so far what he has heard is disappointing.

There’s a word around that it’s only after the complaints made by a large fraction of the playing group that the hierarchy came to the conclusion of removing Claudio Ranieri from his chair.

In Neville’s opinion, it’s wrong on the part of the hierarchy to allow the players to speak things about the coach on his back and then take that into account to make a decision of the coach’s removal. Read more »

Petr Cech Impressed with Squad Strength at Arsenal

Petr Cech is of the opinion that Arsenal’s squad cannot be any stronger, and the fact that a midfielder like Jack Wilshere could not find a place in the team shows a lot about the strength in depth.

He believes that Arsenal can finally consider challenging for the title. Arsenal have not suffered a defeat since the opening day 4-3 loss against Liverpool. They have faced some tough teams along the way but they have come out in flying colours. The way Arsenal have managed to take care of the Champions League and EFL Cup commitments along the way have also impressedCech.

After his arrival from Chelsea in 2015,Cech is the undisputed number one at the Emirates stadium. He is one of the few members in the Arsenal squad to have won the Premier league title. As a result, Arsene Wenger will have reasons to believe that the goalkeeper will pass on his experience to the rest of the teammates. Read more »
